Under the direction of the Simulation Center Director, the incumbent will be responsible for educational and technical aspects of the Regional Research and Innovation in Simulation Education (RISE) Center.
Definition of simulation: “Simulation is a technique—not a technology—to replace or amplify real experiences with guided experiences that evoke or replicate substantial aspects of the real world in a fully interactive manner.” (Gaba, 2004)
1) Facilitates and debriefs simulations for undergraduate level nursing students. 2) Adheres to the International Nursing Association of Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) Standards in performance of simulation duties. 3) Maintain Simulation Center as a clean, safe, and operational facility and optimal learning environment. 4) Set up and clean up rooms for training sessions and meetings. 5) Participate in simulation team meetings. 6) Role-play as needed for simulated cases. 7) Provide an appropriate orientation to simulator features and the simulated learning environment before each scenario. 8) Provide evaluation forms for users to complete. 9) Maintain currency in simulation literature. 10) Solicit instructor and student feedback following simulation experiences to analyze the impact of simulation on the learning process. 11) Maintain data confidentiality and security. 12) Develop professional working relationships with administrators, professionals, and the RISE simulation team. 13) Ensure that all work assignments meet deadlines and standards of quality. 14) Perform other educational related duties as assigned.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure. BSN degree required. Master’s degree in nursing education preferred. Experience with simulation education preferred. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) preferred. If not CHSE certified, expectation of CHSE certification within two years of hire.
Experience: 1-3 years of simulation experience preferred. Previous experience in clinical care and education is preferred. Experience in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Life Support is preferred.
Skills and Attributes: Knowledge of INACSL standards, patient simulation services and instructional technologies. Knowledge of principles and methods of adult education. Computer proficiency in PC and Mac-based software applications: MS Word and PowerPoint. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and willing to learn new skills. Ability to work under pressure and reliably meets deadlines. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision. Ability to coordinate training assignments, tasks, and schedules. Ability to assess situations and adapt to a highly dynamic environment. Ability to work evening/weekends. Work requires occasional heavy lifting and use of specialized medical equipment.
