Overview: The Web Designer will assist the Associate Director of Digital Strategy in managing and evolving the user interface, visual design, and content of the RMU website and will also provide ongoing support in the development of SEO, email marketing, and other digital initiatives.

Description: The Web Designer will play a critical role in the ongoing evolution of all aspects of Robert Morris University's digital presence. Under the supervision of the Associate Director for Digital Strategy, duties will include supporting ongoing evolution of the RMU website in terms of user interface, content strategy, and graphic design, along with tracking and measurement of user behavior to continue to optimize the user experience and digital advertising performance. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organization to continuously update and enhance web content, and design and develop content for new initiatives and opportunities on an ongoing basis. The candidate also needs to have a technical understanding of the underlying platforms and tools used to build, maintain, and measure the performance of all RMU digital properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Design web graphics including banners, ads, icons, logos, accent images, and other relevant visual materials for the RMU marketing website.
  • Work with Drupal CMS to update website pages with new content and information.
  • Create and update website HTML and CSS to ensure consistent visual styling, desktop and mobile responsiveness, and proper accessibility per WCAG and Section 508 standards.
  • Write SEO-appropriate content for website pages as needed and review existing content to ensure accuracy and appropriate SEO strength and formatting.
  • Create and design emails and email marketing campaigns in coordination with development staff and other university departments and constituents.
  • Support marketing and PR staff with web-related needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be available after hours and on weekends.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in web development, graphics design, marketing, or similar field/experience.
  • 3+ years working in web design, web development, and/or graphic design. Experience preferred with web content writing, SEO, and/or email marketing.
  • Strong skill set in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator required. Knowledge required of HTML, CSS, and general web/design principles and protocols also required. Helpful but not required to have experience with Drupal, Pantheon, JavaScript or JQuery, and other applicable or similar email marketing tools and content management systems.
