Overview:
The Systems Administrator is primarily responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining University enterprise infrastructure systems; including but not limited to: on-premises server and storage systems, cloud computing environments, unified communications systems, and network infrastructure. The Systems Administrator is also responsible for user account management; including but not limited to: creating and managing system permissions and user accounts, implementing and maintaining role-based access controls, and auditing of accounts and permissions to privileged systems. It is expected for the Systems Administrator to be available on-call and after business hours as needed for repairs and maintenance. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Enterprise Infrastructure and with a collaborative team of network and systems analysts, engineers, and administrators.
Responsibilities:
  • Assume primary responsibility for supporting and maintaining assigned systems, such as compute and storage infrastructure, telephony applications and systems, and database environments
  • Assume primary responsibility for maintaining user accounts, access controls, and security of assigned systems, such as Student Information Systems (SIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems
  • Assist end users in diagnosing application issues and work with them to schedule application of patches, software, and hardware updates
  • Monitor assigned systems, communicate capacity or performance issues, and take appropriate actions regarding emergency procedures
  • Contact hardware and software vendors to resolve outages and software defects, and follow problems through their resolution
  • Maintain meticulous documentation of systems configurations and procedures following departmental standards
  • Write and maintain scripts to automate processes and problem resolution
  • Assist other systems and network administrators, engineers, and analysts with their duties and in troubleshooting issues as they arise
  • All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Telecommunications or related field plus two years of professional experience as a Systems Administrator required; or four years of professional experience as a Systems Administrator in lieu of degree.
  • Two years of skilled experience managing Linux operating systems required
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and Active Directory
  • Experience managing server virtualization infrastructure (VMware ESXi, vSphere, vCenter)
  • Experience managing Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and/or Oracle Database environments
  • Experience managing PBX and VoIP systems (Asterisk PBX and Polycom VoIP products)
  • Experience scripting with PowerShell and Bash, or programming with languages such as C# and Python
  • Experience managing Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience managing campus and data center network infrastructure (Cisco Catalyst and Nexus routers and switches, Cisco Wireless, Fortinet Firewalls, F5 Load Balancers)
  • Knowledge of UNIX/Linux and Windows Server operating systems
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking: networking topology, protocols, and services
  • Knowledge of Student Information Systems (SIS) and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP)
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner, as well as part of a collaborative team
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to multi-task and thrive in a busy changing environment
  • Ability to handle stressful situations with professional composure
  • Ability to be available by phone and email after typical business hours
  • Flexibility to work off-hours for planned and unplanned maintenance
  • Ability to drive or have reliable transportation to travel on behalf of the University
  • Certifications such as Linux+, Cloud+, CCNA, or MCSE preferred
  • Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation to travel on behalf of the University is required
