Assistant Director, Counseling Center and Therapist

This position provides therapeutic services for students, as well as assists the Director with administrative tasks. Therapeutic services include individual/group counseling, crisis assessment/intervention, and making appropriate referrals as needed. This position will also engage in mental health/wellness promotion and outreach to campus constituents.
  • Provide direct clinical services to students via individual and group counseling sessions, as well as crisis intervention. Conduct assessments, identify needs, and develop case formulations. Effectively engage and retain students and efficiently manage caseload. Develop and implement appropriate discharge or transfer planning with student and relevant parties and conduct necessary follow-up. Consult with and/or make referrals to other professionals and/or outside agencies. Maintain accurate and complete case files.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational programming for the campus community on personal and community wellness topics (anxiety, depression, grief, etc.). Oversee drug and alcohol education services.
  • Assist with providing clinical supervision for doctoral practicum students.
  • Assist with training and workshops for campus constituents including groups, such as student leaders, faculty/staff, and others.
  • Engage in mental health and wellness promotion activities on campus.
  • Effectively engage with varied student populations, faculty/staff, prospective students/families, and others to foster a supportive, inclusive, and positive atmosphere for mental health and wellness.
  • May represent the RMU Counseling Center in the absence of the Director, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned. On occasion, may drive on behalf of the university, work evenings/weekends, and provide after-hours crisis on-call support.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in mental health counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field required.
  • At least two years of experience working with young adults is required. Experience providing clinical supervision is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience providing mental health counseling and crisis intervention; Student-service orientation; Ability to work collaboratively and always maintain confidentiality, ethical conduct, and discretion; Thorough knowledge of university student development theory and mental health outreach activities; Ability to be dependable, adaptable, and calm in high-stress situations; Ability to work varied work hours with evenings/weekends, as needed; and Ability to have reliable transportation to travel on behalf of the university, as needed.
  • Current clinical license from the state of Pennsylvania preferred. If unlicensed, must be license-eligible.
