Overview:
As a member of the Center for Student Success team, this student-centered position supports undergraduate recruitment and retention across programs in the assigned areas. Primary responsibilities include academic advising, participating in recruitment initiatives and activities, and serving as a point of contact for undergraduate students within specific departments and programs. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Student Success and includes collaboration with Academic Department Heads and/or other program personnel. This position is a full-time, in-person position during the academic year and may include occasional evening and weekend hours obligations. Flexibility for a hybrid work schedule during other times of the year may be available.
Responsibilities:
- Provide academic program advisement to undergraduate students within assigned departments to include program coaching and course registration guidance. Serve as a liaison with academic departments and academic services.
- Assist with student retention and persistence efforts as determined by the department and university. Collaborates with university personnel for student success initiatives. Tracks at-risk students for focused advising and assists with special programming for student retention.
- Attend and participate in campus-wide events as assigned including New Student Orientation and other Admissions-related events and activities. Some events require participation during evening and weekend hours.
- Teach a minimum of one First Year Seminar Program course (FYSP1000 or other equivalents) every fall semester.
- Demonstrate inclusive advising, supporting, coaching and counseling strategies for students. Recommend and utilize effective strategies for enhancing the student experience and improving customer satisfaction.
- Effectively use Ellucian Banner and other student success management programs, platforms, and tools for assessment, evaluation and registration campaigns. Utilize programmatic data and results in determining students’ academic performance.
- Complete regular analysis and comprehensive end-of-semester and annual reporting to include academic achievement, service/membership records, retention and other graduation rates. Provide recommendations related to the program performance and key retention drivers.
- Assist in developing and/or presenting materials for prospective students and their families that support program recruitment and enrollment. Offer information to prospective students regarding program requirements and prerequisites.
- Refer students to appropriate university personnel as needed (i.e., Counseling Center, Student Financial Services). Assign/reassign students to faculty advisors as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned. On occasion, may need to drive on behalf of the university.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Education, Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in a secondary or higher education environment preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of university student development theory, academic advising, retention, and persistence. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for diverse backgrounds.
- Familiarity with current trends in higher education and technology, and the ability to leverage the use of technology and other resources to meet student needs.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with a high energy level is required
- to individuals and groups.
- Independent judgment with a high degree of discretion, confidentiality and integrity.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data.
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
