Overview:
The Assistant Director of the Center for Global Engagement (CGE) contributes to the university’s global engagement by managing international student support services and education abroad programming. This position serves as both a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO), supporting RMU’s F-1 and J-1 student populations, while also managing all aspects of education abroad opportunities, including semester, summer, and faculty-led programs. The Assistant Director also supports global programming, cross-cultural engagement, and compliance with federal immigration regulations. The role reports to the Executive Director of the CGE and collaborates closely with Enrollment Management, academic departments, and external partners.
Responsibilities:
  • Education Abroad (Domestic Students Studying Abroad): Manage all advising, promotion, and implementation of education abroad programs, including semester, summer, and faculty-led experiences.
  • Serve as the lead advisor for RMU students studying abroad, providing guidance throughout the application, pre-departure, and re-entry processes.
  • With the Executive Director, collaborate with faculty to develop and support short-term, faculty-led education abroad programs (FLEAPs).
  • Lead recruitment and outreach efforts through presentations, webinars, classroom visits, and events.
  • Maintain relationships with partner institutions and third-party providers; assist in the development of new partnerships.
  • Manage the Global Mentors (study abroad returnees) program and collect assessment data (Google Surveys).
  • International Student Support (F-1 & J-1 Visa Holders): Serve as DSO/ARO in SEVIS, maintaining compliance with federal regulations and supporting all related processes.
  • Act as the primary advisor for international students on immigration, cultural, and personal matters, including OPT, CPT, and STEM extensions.
  • Lead programs/services that support international student acclimation and success, including, international student orientation, OPT/CPT workshops, advising sessions, etc.
  • Liaise with Enrollment Management on international student recruitment, including issuing of initial I-20’s and interaction with incoming students.
  • Oversee support for sponsored students.
  • Provide ongoing support to exchange students, including application intake, registration, and programming in coordination with partner universities.
  • Maintain international student data and generate reports for institutional and federal use.
  • Leadership & Campus Engagement: Supervise student workers and Global Ambassadors.
  • Coordinate CGE programs that support the co-curricular RMU Ready Program.
  • With the Executive Director, maintain CGE’s marketing materials and social media presence.
  • Represent CGE at university-wide events and collaborate with campus partners to create an inclusive and globally minded campus environment.
  • Other Duties: Serve as the front-of-house contact for the CGE office.
  • Participate in special projects and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 2 years of progressive experience in international education or related fields in higher education. Experience working with diverse populations and demonstrated intercultural competence.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Fluency in a language other than English and/or experience studying or living abroad, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of SEVIS and U.S. immigration regulations (F-1 and J-1), preferred, but will train.
  • U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence status required for SEVIS access.
