Overview:
Robert Morris University (RMU) is transitioning to an in-house management model for the UPMC Events Center and is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Event Manager. This role is essential for managing every aspect of facility events from initial planning stages through successful execution. Reporting directly to the UPMC Events Center Director of Events and Operations, the Event Manager will oversee the events department and ensure seamless experience for all clients and guests. Facility Overview The UPMC Events Center is a 140,000 square foot multi-purpose facility located on the campus of Robert Morris University. As a premier venue adjacent to the Joe Walton Stadium Complex, it serves as the home for RMU NCAA athletic games (Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball) and hosts a wide variety of events, including concerts, commencement, conferences, trade shows, and banquets.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate the logistics for all events held throughout the UPMC Events Center.
- Work in close support of the Conference Sales Manager to plan and execute events.
- Coordinate show requirements with tour production managers and manage event load-ins and load-outs.
- Oversee all production, set-ups, and event-related contract services.
- Troubleshoot during event preparation and execution to ensure correct setups and resolve issues regarding policy, staffing, or billing.
- Recruit, train, motivate, and evaluate front-of-house staff, including guest services, security, medical personnel, and parking staff.
- Create work schedules and delegate assignments for event staff, police, fire, and EMS personnel.
- Interact with local public safety officials to ensure smooth event operations and compliance with fire and safety regulations.
- Develop and control event budgets, including pre-show financial estimates and post-show settlements.
- Deliver accurate event data to the finance department for timely invoicing and settlement.
- Prepare detailed event reports tracking attendance, significant problems, and results.
- Communicate all problems and proposed solutions to the Director of Events and Operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in facility management, marketing, business administration, or a related field is required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible event management experience in an arena, stadium, convention center, or public assembly facility.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with AutoCAD and production elements (audio, video, lighting, and rigging) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of crowd management, public safety regulations, and A/V equipment.
- Ability to make management decisions in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in English.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended consecutive days.
- Leadership: Constantly directing others and fostering collaboration while multi-tasking under strict time limits.
- Mobility: Frequently moving about the office, arena, and event sites to supervise staff and service clients.
- Communication: Constant use of radio, telephone, and email to exchange accurate information.
- Strength: Occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, with the potential to sporadically assist with up to 100 pounds in emergencies.
