Success Coach, Transfer Student Advisor

Position Department: Center For Student Success and Personal Development
Position Type: Staff Full-Time
This position will provide professional advising support services for undergraduate students in addition to serving as the advisor for all Transfer Students and Students in the RMU Gateway Program. This position is grant funded for 18 months.
  • Provide academic program advising, course registration, and career development as well as serve as a liaison with academic departments and academic services
  • Assist in student retention and persistent efforts as determined by the department
  • Consult and partner with academic departments, enrollment management, and Student Life organizations
  • Develop presentations, workshops, and online resources related to transfer student success
  • Participate in Transfer Student Orientation and teach the Transfer Student Orientation Course each semester
  • Serve as an advisor to one or more student organizations including Sigma Tau
  • Serve as a member of the RMU Transfer Success Center comprised of Enrollment Management, Academic Services, and other University units
  • Demonstrate culturally inclusive advising, supporting, coaching and counseling strategies for transfer students
  • Develop and facilitate educational workshops for addressing relevant student and community issues
  • Effectively use Navigate, assessment and evaluation results in determining student accomplishment
  • Complete comprehensive semester and annual reporting including, but not limited to, academic achievement, service, membership and retention, and policy compliance
  • Occasionally will need to drive on behalf of the university
  • Weekend and evening hours will be required
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Human Resources, Career Counseling, Human Resources, Student Personnel, Student Affairs or a related field is required
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an educational setting (secondary or higher education environment) preferred
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with a high energy level is required
  • Ability to develop and deliver effective personal, social, career, and student development programs to individuals and groups
  • Independent judgment with a high degree of discretion, confidentiality and integrity
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Must be customer service oriented
  • Comfortable with social media (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn)
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to have reliable transportation is required
