Overview:
Responsible for implementation of the media relations functions for assigned sports, within the guidelines, rules, and regulations of the University and the NCAA.
Responsibilities:
- Disseminates information for all assigned sports, including: Oversees writing, editing, and distributing of sports information in the form of Athletic Department website stories, social media accounts, press releases, media guides, game programs, telephone interviews, etc. on a timely basis. Coordinates and reports compilation of statistical records, records of competition, and archival information on a timely basis. Spearheads the response to University and public inquiries as related to athletic events, student-athletes, and coaches in addition to serving as the primary contact for designated sports and cultivates/maintains relationships with local, regional, and national media to maximize coverage and exposure for the athletics programs through traditional and new media sources. Coordinates the nomination and promotes serious consideration of outstanding student-athletes as candidates for Conference, Regional and National awards, both for athletic as well as academic excellence.
- Provides media relations function on day of competition, including: Responsible for hiring, coaching, developing and reviewing performance of the staff. Oversees hiring of game-day workers for home competition of assigned sports, including statisticians, clock operators, public address announcers, scorekeepers, etc. Provides supervision to game day workers during home competition. Provides statistical and/or game-tracking services during athletic competition as needed for assigned sports.
- Additionally, the position demands: Organizational efficiency, detail-orientation, good communication skills, and the ability to handle numerous assignments in a timely manner with the flexibility to adjust to unscheduled developments requiring immediate attention. Leads the development of new avenues to promote Robert Morris University's athletic teams, student-athletes, coaches and staff, in addition to coordinating with the staff, coaches, and student-athletes to enhance their interaction with the public and media. Proficient knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and guidelines of all conferences that Robert Morris University participates in and the ability to apply them.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including serving as Game Management administrator for selected events.
- Motivates and mentors students to learn the field of college sports media relations.
- Dedicated to enhancing the intellectual, social, and personal development of Robert Morris University students.
- Promotes academic achievement, good sporting and ethical conduct, and equitable opportunity for students and staff, including women and minorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree required.
- Minimum four years' experience in collegiate media relations.
- Strong writing skills, communication skills, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in social media platforms and website development.
- Commitment to University and NCAA rules.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement with high degrees of discretion, confidentiality and integrity.
- Helpful and compassionate when working with faculty, staff, students, and the community.
- Ability to multitask and thrive in an ever-changing atmosphere.

- Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.

- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Valid driver's license or reliable transportation to travel on behalf of the University is required.
- CPR certification required.
