Overview:
The Academic Advisor and University Tutoring Services Coordinator at Robert Morris University oversees the peer tutoring program. This position works directly to recruit, hire, train, and maintain a team of peer tutors at RMU who provide on-ground tutoring services to all students. This individual collaborates with academic departments on campus to ensure tutors are qualified students with the most accurate materials for tutoring. This position will also serve as an Academic Advisor by providing academic program advisement to assigned undergraduate students. This position also serves as the Center for Student Success representative for new Transfer Student events and initiatives on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and oversee all Tutoring Center programs, staff, and services available on the campus including virtual services offered in partnership with an outside vendor.
- Identify, recruit, train, and supervisor peer tutors from all academic disciplines to fulfill tutor requests, and manage the onboarding process for new staff members.
- Develop and implement a communication plan for faculty, staff, and students to support use of tutoring services. Create digital and physical promotional materials to best advertise tutoring services to the campus community.
- Create and distribute Tutoring Satisfaction Surveys each semester to all students that have utilized the RMU Peer Tutoring Center to best monitor efficacy of services.
- Create digital and physical promotional material to best advertise tutoring services to the campus community and collaborate with the University’s Brand Department to make all necessary changes to the Tutoring Center website.
- Maintain up-to-date training manuals for tutoring staff and adjust policies and procedures as needed. Maintain compliance with all College Reading and Learning Association’s International Tutor Training Program Certification (ITTPC) guidelines and assessment requirements each year.
- Work with the Director of the Center for Student Success to manage and control the tutoring program budget, including all supply and equipment purchasing and student worker pay, forecasting future program costs.
- Provide academic program advisement to undergraduate students within assigned departments to include program coaching and course registration guidance. Serve as a liaison with academic departments and academic services.
- Assist in student retention and persistent efforts as determined by the department and University. Collaborates with university personnel for student success initiatives. Tracks at-risk students for focused advising and assists with special programming for student retention.
- Participate in New Student Orientation, Admissions recruitment days, and other campus-wide events as necessary. Specifically aid the Admissions team with new transfer student events.
- Teach all sections of the Transfer Seminar course (FYSP1030) on an as needed basis
- Refer students to appropriate university personnel as needed (i.e., Counseling Center, Student Financial Services). Assign/reassign students to faculty advisors as appropriate.
- Effectively use EAB Navigate and Banner tools for assessment, evaluation, and registration results in determining student academic performance.
- Complete comprehensive semester and annual reporting including, but not limited to, academic achievement, service, membership and retention, and policy compliance.
- Evening and weekend availability for programs and special events.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work, Counseling, Human Resources, Career Counseling, Human Resources, Student Personnel, Student Affairs or a related field is required
- Minimum of two years of experience in an educational setting (secondary or higher education environment) preferred
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with a high energy level is required
- Ability to develop and deliver effective personal, social, career, and student development programs to individuals and groups
- Independent judgment with a high degree of discretion, confidentiality and integrity
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret statistical data
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Must be customer service oriented
- Comfortable with social media (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn)
- Valid driver’s license required
