Overview:
The Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development at Robert Morris University is responsible for the strategic design, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive support system for student-athletes. This role focuses on holistic success, integrating academic support, career readiness, community engagement, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) programming. As a key member of the athletics administrative team, the incumbent fosters a culture of leadership and personal growth while ensuring compliance with university and NCAA regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of life skills, leadership, and personal development workshops tailored to the student-athlete experience.
- NIL Programming: Lead the department’s NIL initiatives, providing education and empowering student-athletes to cultivate their personal brands while ensuring compliance with all policies.
- Orientation: Plan and conduct orientation sessions for new student-athletes to facilitate their transition to the university.
- Leadership Organizations: Provide oversight and management for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and the Colonial Leadership Academy.
- Career Programming: Create and implement career development programs, including resume building, interview preparation, and job shadowing opportunities.
- Networking: Engage with alumni, corporate partners, and the university Career Center to facilitate internships and post-graduate job placement.
- Mentorship: Provide one-on-one guidance to student-athletes regarding graduate school preparation and career pathways.
- Academic Monitoring: Work in collaboration with Academic Affairs to track student-athlete performance and progress toward degree completion.
- At-Risk Support: Utilize university systems to mentor at-risk student-athletes and develop strategies to improve retention and graduation rates.
- Faculty Liaison: Maintain professional relationships with faculty and academic departments to assess student-athlete course performance.
- Community Service: Oversee and track all department community outreach activities and student-athlete service hours.
- Budget Management: Monitor and authorize the operating budget for student-athlete service activities.
- Recruiting: Participate in on-campus recruiting by sharing academic and development information with prospective student-athletes and their families.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, or a related field is recommended.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in student-athlete development, academic advising, or athletics administration, preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proficiency in data management and report writing is essential. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends, with some travel required.
