Overview:
Under supervision from the Director of the Office of Residence Life, The Assistant Director of Residence Life is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the Office of Residence Life. This position will take leadership and management responsibility for housing management, staff development, and residential education. The Assistant Director will also provide ongoing supervision of professional and paraprofessional staff as needed. Additionally, this position assists the Director in the daily management of the overall Residence Life experience. This is a full-time, 12 month position.
Responsibilities:
- Housing Management: Responsible for the administration of the Office of Residence Life Room selection and assignment process, including all related reports. Responsible for the coordination of the residence life duty rotation schedule during nights, holidays, and weekends, as appropriate or directed. Serves as a department liaison to the Facilities Management Department and Department of Athletics. Coordinates residence hall openings and closings. Facilitates housing selection process for current students. Coordinate semesterly health and safety inspections in collaboration with Area Coordinators and Graduate Assistants Oversees implementation of safety and security protocols by conducting regular fire and safety system drills in collaboration with Area Coordinators and Graduate Assistants
- Residential Education: Oversight of the development and implementation of the Residence Life Education Model, residence life learning outcomes, and implementation of Community Development Model Identify and develop collaborative, working relationships with faculty, campus partners, and greater community constituents that support academic success Provide year-round training and guidance to community advisors
- Office Responsibilities: Directly supervise the office graduate assistants Attend weekly Residence Life Professional Staff Meetings Provide all appropriate information and submit requested reports to the Office of Residence Life and other university offices as necessary and appropriate Post and maintain assigned office hours in the Office of Residence Life Have a working knowledge of the services that are available on campus; establish open lines of communication so as to ensure the appropriate use of university resources and serve as a member of university committees as appropriate. Respond to students and parents on residential life issues or concerns
- Additional responsibilities include: Participate in the university crisis response and on-call duty rotation Maintain and provide regular updates to the departmental website, computer programs and systems, and technology. Assists with the creation, distribution, and assessment of departmental policies, reports, proposals, and surveys. Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Higher Education or similar field strongly preferred
- A minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience in residence life
- Experience working with Living Learning Communities and/or Residence Hall Associations
- Strong leadership, communication skills, and interpersonal skills with a proven success in leading programs and delivering outcomes for college students
- Demonstrated experience in counseling and mentorship of college-age students
- Demonstrated understanding of student development theory
- Ability to use current technology to effectively connect with students
- Knowledge of housing and student information software platforms such as eRezLife, Navigate, and Banner preferred.
